The Dartmouth-Hitchcock (D-H) Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is the largest laboratory in New Hampshire providing Pathology and Clinical Laboratory services to the D-H physician practices, D-H hospital affiliates as well to independent practices and hospitals throughout New Hampshire and Vermont.

The laboratory is comprised of 30 nationally recognized faculty members, each experts their pathology sub-specialty field and over 300 technical and support staff members.

The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine’s primary location is in Lebanon, NH at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with two stat laboratories located in Manchester and Nashua, NH and twelve patient service/collection centers located throughout New Hampshire. The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine has a Pathology Residency and five Fellowship Programs with the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. In addition, The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine has several undergraduate clinical affiliations with colleges and universities in New England for their clinical laboratory science programs, the largest being with the University of New Hampshire.

The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine has been a leader in process improvement (LEAN/Six Sigma) at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. This work has led to beautifully renovated space designed for efficiency of workflow. The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine has several yellow, green and black belts certified through the Value Institute. The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine has lab sections that fall within three divisions: Anatomic Pathology, Laboratory Medicine and Clinical Genomics & Advanced Technologies. (see sidebar). The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine has a strong regional and outreach presence performing approximately 3 million billable test procedures annually. Current work underway is standardizing the test menu, instrumentation platforms and clinical systems across our four D-H Affiliate hospital laboratories in New Hampshire and Vermont.
