Overview
Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics is home to the largest laboratory in NH, providing Pathology and Clinical Laboratory services to DHMC and Clinics physician practices, Dartmouth Health member hospital, and independent practices and hospitals throughout NH and VT. Histology is the place where anatomy, biology, chemistry, art, and science all converge. In this department, tissue specimens are prepared onto glass slides for pathologists to examine for cellular alterations and abnormalities in order to diagnose disease. If you are looking into getting your foot in the door of anatomic pathology, this is the role for you. The Lab Assistant position performs whole slide imaging on state-of-the-art machinery, assists pathology technicians, and works mostly independently while still being part of a large team. Histology is a fast-paced, quality-driven environment that promotes growth and education.
Candidates for this position must have obtained their HS Diploma or GED, with some college coursework and previous laboratory experience preferred. We are looking for candidates with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment. Our laboratory team is a high-functioning, dedicated team of professionals who work hard to the highest possible standard.
This is a full-time, 40-hour/week evening shift position working from 12:00 pm-8:30 pm. The evening shift receives a 10% shift differential. This is a grant-funded position with funding available until late February 2025.
Responsibilities
- Evaluating the quality of whole slide images
- Cleaning of glass microscope slides
- Working closely with pathologists, residents, and anatomic pathology staff for imaging request
- Assisting pathology technicians with slide distribution and correctly correlating specimens and labels
- Performs other duties as required or assigned
Qualifications
- High school graduate required.
- Coursework toward a college degree preferred.
- Previous laboratory experience preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a fast paced, demanding environment required.
